Introduction

Hello, my name is Michael Ambrose and I am undergraduate student studying Sport Management at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.  Welcome to my blog on American Sport in the 21st Century.  By starting this blog I plan to discuss and give my opinion on the different aspects of American sport culture and how they impact society according to the topics discussed in my American Sport in the 21st Century class.  Sport makes up the 4th largest industry in the United States and the 11th largest in the world.  Based on those numbers it is safe to say that millions of people around the world are interested in sport.  Personally for me there has never been a day in my life where I can recall there be no kind of sport consumption on my behalf whether that was watching sport on TV, or actually participating in sport.  Therefore, I feel is it important to talk about sport to better understand why the industry is so captivating and to understand the role sport plays in society.  I will be hoping to spark discussion among people that lets them think about what sport means to them beyond just playing a game.  So, for the millions...and millions (as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would say) who are fascinated by American Sport I look forward to taking this journey with you.  Hopefully by the end of the journey we'll having a better understanding of our opinions of sport and why it is important.
